“Then he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands. And he said, “Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot”; and he shot. And he said, “The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.” -II Kings 13:16‭-‬17 NKJV

What is the spiritual significance of Elisha’s hands resting on the hands of the King as the King shoots the arrows towards Syria? What is the relevance of Moses’ lifted hands as he sat on the mountain, while Joshua fought the enemies in the field? What is the meaning of the statement that Jesus made: “…Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast in those days.” -Luke 5:34‭-‬35 NKJV.

Do not underestimate the impact of the presence of a spiritual leader in your life. Don’t let lack of spiritual knowledge make you say; “I don’t need them”. “I will relate with my God alone”. “I don’t have to tell him what I’m doing”. “I don’t need her permission!” “I will stay away from his ministry, I want him to miss me!” (Believe me, if that ministry was started and sustained by God, you won’t be missed!).

Don’t look down on your appointed Spiritual Leaders! God gave them to you, for your perfection, spiritual development, security against attacks, guidance, and so on. As Elisha’s hands rested on the hands of the King as he shot the arrows towards the enemies, Elisha called those arrows “the arrows of God for the deliverance of Israel”. There are many battles you cannot fight by yourself, because you actually don’t have the spiritual stamina for them. And, even if you climb a tree, there are things you can never see coming; but your spiritual leader can see even if he seats on the ground. Submit yourself to the Spiritual Leeaders that God has appointed for you: “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” -Hebrews 13:17 NKJV
