WHAT DID YOU TELL GOD?
“If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.” Numbers 30:2 NKJV
Vows are not just prayers of request. They are seen as loans, or contract, with God! That is why there is no room for amendments! Asking God to help you secure a job with a promise that you would serve Him with that job or your life is not just a prayer request, it is a vow! If you told God that you would serve Him with your physical body and your life, if He would heal you or save you from death, that is also a vow. If you in advance released an offering or seed to God with the hopes that He would bless you or fight for you as Jephthah did; you have made vows too.
Vows engage God in a form of contract. He doesn’t turn back! … And He doesn’t expect you to turn back too. He acts based on your words! People make a lot of vows when they are in distress, and they often forget them when they get some comforts- just as fast as a woman forgets her labor-pains after delivering her baby. Some even try to change their vows because of certain circumstances they might call “personal reasons”. God doesn’t tolerate excuses. Read these:
“Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few. When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed— Better not to vow than to vow and not pay. Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands? For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God.” Ecclesiastes 5:2, 4-7 NKJV.
Forgetting, or trying to change what you told God, or His messengers, can attract dangerous consequences. Search your mind now. Check if you have some unfulfilled promises to God or His messengers. Search your heart. What promises did you make to God when you were in need of something so special to you? Have you told a Messenger of God that you would “do-this-and-do-that”, but you changed your mind afterward? Are you sure that is not why you’re facing those troubles you’re presently facing?? Search your heart. Move now! Do what you must do to fulfill your promises to God. God doesn’t joke with words. Swing into action now!
