HOW TO INCREASE YOUR SPIRITUAL STATURE-Part 3
“So He said to them, “this kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” -Mark 9:29 NKJV
God told Brother Kenneth Hagin, “it is better to live a fasted-life than to fast”. What God meant was that, fasting and praying as a lifestyle is better than fasting and praying because there is an emergency. This kind of fasting and praying is done regularly and without definite dates or specific duration-it is a lifestyle, of fasting and prayers. This is not the kind of fasting and prayers that a lot of Christians do, asking for material things … once every year. No!
We are talking about the kind of fasting and prayers that Anna the Prophetess did. Remember that Widow at the temple: “… who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers NIGHT AND DAY. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.” -Luke 2:37-38 NKJV. This kind of fasting and prayer is for Kingdom advancement, spiritual accuracy, and efficiency in ministry. Not particularly about personal or material needs. This was the kind of fasting and prayers that Daniel did before he got awesome angelic experiences.
So, Jesus was telling His Disciples (in the study text above) that, unless they had given themselves regularly to fasting and prayers, there were some devils or circumstances they couldn’t rule over! If you like food and comfort too much, you cannot function effectively in the realms of the spirit. You have to train your system to get used to fasting and prayers, intentionally! If you do, your spiritual sensitivity will be so sharp. And your spiritual muscles will become bigger! When you starve your flesh because of the Spirit, you’re strengthening your spirit-man! So, apart from Speaking in Tongues to edify yourself, and Feeding on God’s Word to grow your spirit-man; constant fasting and prayers is another way to become spiritually stronger and higher! Work on these.
