BE EAGER TO HEAR, THAN TO SPEAK

WORD & POWER for TODAY

BE EAGER TO HEAR, THAN TO SPEAK

“He who has knowledge restrains and is careful with his words, and a man of understanding and wisdom has a cool spirit (self-control, an even temper).” -Proverbs 17:27 AMP

In the school of wisdom, fools are known through the multitude of the words they speak. They speak carelessly and carefreely about everything, and about anyone. There seem to be no guard to their mouths.

In the Bible, there are numerous accounts of people who got punished for speaking carelessly. Wrong thoughts are judged; how much more wrong words?! As a very young preacher, I had gone to a village in Edo State of Nigeria with my team, to organize some crusade. Then our host, who happened to be older than us in age, and more experienced in the ministry opened a discussion about an even more Senior Minister of the Gospel. Expecting us to contribute. I kept my mouth shut! When he noticed I was not contributing, he said; “feel free, I have been in ministry for some while…” But, that only got me more scared of him. Because, experience should have taught him, that he was putting our lives as young ministers in danger!

“Even a [callous, arrogant] fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; when he closes his lips he is regarded as sensible (prudent, discreet) and a man of understanding.” -Proverbs 17:28 AMP. You don’t have to contribute to everything you hear flying around. Just say, “it is well” and change the topic! Some of those discussions are spiritually setup for your punishment; be careful with what you say!
