BE DELIBERATE ABOUT YOUR CHOICE OF FRIENDS
“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 NKJV
A Man of GOD once said, “it is demonic spirits that tell people to live in isolation”, and I think he is right. Even the first creatures of GOD was a community, and GOD commanded duplicity. We all need friends, and we all need family!
But, as much as these are important, we need discretion to select whom our friends should be. A lot of people complain that they do not have friends, but ask them; are they friendly? The word of GOD makes it clear, if you have friends (or wish to have friends), you must be friendly as well. And being friendly doesn’t mean you should embrace everyone without checking their character and lifestyle before labelling them your friends. Read this: “The man of too many friends [chosen indiscriminately] will be broken in pieces and come to ruin, But there is a [true, loving] friend who [is reliable and] sticks closer than a brother.” PROVERBS 18:24 AMP. All the people in the world are not the same. There are certain people that would suit your life perfectly. Look for them prayerfully, and keep them, when you find them!
Another issue is that, some of us don’t know how to keep good relationships when we find them. I believe {and you may argue it} that GOD sends certain people into our lives in order for us to fulfill our destinies. But the question is, do we recognize them? And do we keep them after finding them? To keep good friends …friends that stay closer to us than family, we must be deliberately friendly. If you leave your good relationships to chances, you will soon lose them! Call your friends often, pray for them. Show them you care. Visit them. Smile when you’re being smiled to. Embrace someone showing you love. Cherish those who sincerely rebuke and correct you. Everyone isn’t meant for you. When you find those people calling you often to check on you, don’t get proud, pay attention. They might be those friends that STICK CLOSER than a brother.
