YOU MUST FORGIVE YOUR BRETHREN
_*”Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”*_ Colossians 3:13 KJV
Someone might wonder, do Christians do wrong? If they are all holy, where would offences come from? And, can Christians do wrong to fellow Christians? Yes, my answer is yes! The flesh is the reason so many Christians do wrong. As long as we dwell in this earthly tabernacle called flesh, occasional transgressions are inevitable. That is why GOD Himself gave room for mercy, and forgiveness.
Jesus taught; _*”Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.”*_ Luke 17:3-4 KJV. Did you notice the frequency at which a “brother” can be wrong, in one single day? Yet you must forgive him. What you however must notice in this instruction is repentance. An unrepentant brother is dangerous. Someone you rebuke for his wrong, yet instead of repenting he gets angry. That is a potential disaster. You must avoid him, or her.
Even if the person wrongs you seventy times seven times in one day {i.e 490 times}, with genuine repentance, GOD expects you to still forgive the person (Matthew 18:21-22). Just the way Christ has, and is still forgiving you. That is what is called “forbearing” one another. But, if you refuse to forgive a repentant brother, your sins won’t be forgiven either. Read, _*”And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”*_ Mark 11:25-26 KJV.
