LEARN TO ASK THE LORD, LIKE DAVID

“Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.” 2 Samuel 21:1 KJV

Acting on impulse, without know the source of the issue can put you in very serious troubles. And assumptions are dangerous. David had an attitude of always enquiring from GOD. An attitude that is not common in Christianity today.

Christians these days would rather act after hearing a gossip, or judge people based on what they have observed from afar. When odd situations happen, they just jump into fasting and prayers without asking GOD ‘why?’ that happened. And what method to adopt in dealing with the odd situation. When famine broke out in the land, David didn’t say it was climate change. He asked GOD, ‘what is the cause of this persistent famine?’ If you do not know the will of GOD concerning His people, you will embrace things that you should reject. David knew the will of GOD for His people is rain in due season. So, when rain didn’t fall as expected he had to know why. David would even ask GOD before he goes to war. In the battle field, he would ask again, can we strike now? What approach should we apply to attack? Should we run or wait? And all these questions have helped him to recover his losses, win all his battles, and kept his head on his neck all his life.

Even Jesus said concerning the Holy Spirit: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13 KJV. Ask Him concerning what is going on in the world around you. Ask Him concerning your business partner. Your marriage, your travel plans, your children’s behavior etc. He has things to tell you if you’d ask for His guidance. This attitude will save you a lot of unnecessary fights, suspicion, losses of treasures, and loss of good friends. Ask the Lord before you take any step or action! “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” Proverbs 3:5‭-‬8 KJV.
