DON’T THROW STONES AT YOUR LEADERS

DON'T THROW STONES AT YOUR LEADERS

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6

If you lead any group of persons, regardless of the number, you would agree with me that leadership is a tough task. Think about it, the enemies attacked Ziklag where David and his men had camped. The city was set on fire, their belongings were carted away, and their families taken captive -but none of them was killed {as military men, they had observed the situation and known that their families were not killed but taken captive}.

David’s men saw these and their conclusion was to stone David. My question is, why should David be stoned? Did he invite the enemies to invade his own base? Should he have refused to follow the Philistines to war, and they were their hosts in Ziklag? (Because I think David’s men felt if they did not follow the Philistines to war they would have been with their families when the enemies came). What would you have done better if you were David? David too lost his family to these raiders. He too was distressed like everyone and he wept bitterly until there was no more energy to weep; just as everyone did. But, his men still spoke of stoning him. “Let’s stone David!”

Please, if you’re a leader, be strong. Always take strength for your tasks from GOD-the One that chose you. Do not get bitter with your followers when they talk of stoning you because of their distress. Yes, followers are often blind to the needs and pains of their leaders, and that is very bad. The Leader cares about everyone, but hardly would you find someone that cares about him. If you are a follower, always understand that your leader is as much a human as you are. The only difference between you is position and the oil of leadership upon His head. Be concerned about him too. Always put yourself in people’s shoes before you throw stones at them. David encouraged himself in the Lord, and at the end of the day, they all got their families back alive! Let us unite to face the common enemy. Don’t try to judge your leaders. Instead, suggest that good advice if you have it, and we will all be fine.
