ACCEPT GODLY DISCIPLINE“Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11 NKJV
I have listened to preachers who do not paint GOD as our Father, but as Santa Claus (whose main business is to give good things). Santa doesn’t care if you’re holy or not, or if you offended your neighbours or not. But, GOD cares! GOD is very much concerned about your holiness status daily. He’s concerned about how you treat your boss, your colleagues, your Servants, your spouse, and your children. Therefore, in the cause of ensuring that you live right, He rebukes and chastises, after He must have instructed, corrected, and warned you.
Chastisement only comes after instructions, corrections, and warnings. GOD chastises as our earthly parents do, in order to get us to do the right things. “And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” Hebrews 12:5-6 NKJV. To chasten is to make you experience pain, to scourge means to beat deeply. Don’t follow preachers who say GOD doesn’t make you experience pain in order to correct you. Their theology isn’t balanced.
A lot of what David suffered {even from his own son} was scourging, because he committed adultery, conspiracy, and murder. GOD even told him concerning the next king; “I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.” 2 Samuel 7:14-15 KJV. When you sometimes experience difficulties, or some harsh people frustrating your life, check the cause, before you rebuke the devils-because you might actually be the devil that needs to be rebuked. GOD is a Father, and He chastises and scourges His children, if need be!
