THE CENTURION’S HUMILITY

“Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.” -Luke 7:6‭-‬7 NKJV

When the elders of the Jews wanted to persuade Jesus to go and pray for the Centurion’s servant, they told Him that he was worthy of Jesus’ attention. Meaning, he deserves to be given attention. Because, he loved the Jews, and that he had singlehandedly built a worship center for the Jews (even though he was a Roman).

But, study the attitude of that man. He told Jesus that he wasn’t “worthy” to have Jesus come under his roof. Neither was he worthy to approach Jesus! He did not leverage on his services towards the Jews to make demands on Jesus…. In fact, as a Centurion, he should have at least a hundred soldiers under his authority, yet he didn’t bully Jesus to come to his house by force -That is humility!

When some Christians do anything beneficial to their Church or Pastor, they suddenly become “bigger” than their actual size. They brag, sometimes on the fact that they pay more Tithes and give more Offerings than others. Or because they bought the Church Piano! If they ever built the Pastor a house or bought him a car; they start coming late to Church. No one can correct them anymore. That’s evil! No matter what you do in God’s Kingdom, remain humble! “… God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” -James 4:6 NKJV.
