PAY THEM NOW“Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.” James 5:4 KJV
There was a time a young man drove my missionary team to an interior place in Kenya. The tyres of his vehicle bursted several times in that journey. After the trip, I felt it was good we give him some cash to support his purchase of tyres (apart from his wage for the trip). When I got the cash, I was also in serious need of money! The thoughts came that I could borrow the money, then give him when I have some other cash later.
But, while pondering on what to do, I remember this scripture. “Don’t abuse a laborer who is destitute and needy, whether he is a fellow Israelite or foreigner living in your land and in your city. Pay him at the end of each workday; he’s living from hand to mouth and needs it now. If you hold back his pay, he’ll protest to God and you’ll have sin on your books.” Deuteronomy 24:14-15 MSG. I immediately called him, and got the cash across to him. He was surprised and full of joy; because he didn’t even know that I had the plans to pay for his broken tyres. That very day, God prompted somebody else who told me; “I-feel-led-to-bless-you”. He gave me threefold of that amount of money that I wanted to hold back! That-same-day!! The Lord of Sabbath is the God of REST, He cares about laborers.
Don’t hold back wages or provisions from those who have worked for you! Whether they share the same faith with you or not. Always know this, God cares about all His creatures! Your employees, the Taxi man, that Hotel attendant and so on. Pay them as at when due, and the Lord of REST will bless you for caring about others. Don’t ever allow anyone to report you to God for being wicked! God fights for the helpless!
