Some Christians debate the fact that the Holy Spirit can be received after conversion. They claim that the Holy Spirit automatically enters every believer at their conversion. Whereas, that is not true.
Jesus compared the Holy Spirit to a “gift” in this verse. And He said this “Gift” can be received by request. If the Holy Spirit has automatically entered every believer when they first believed, there would be no need for us to “ask” for Him again, because we would have already had Him. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is a Person by Himself. That is why Jesus {i.e The Word}, instructs us to “ask” our Heavenly Father, to “give the Holy Spirit” to us. He also points out the eagerness of our Heavenly Father to “give” the Holy Spirit to us, who ask.
The Holy Spirit is the power of GOD in every believer. He helps us to be effective in our services to GOD, and in our walk with Him. Through Him {The Holy Spirit}, we are able to speak with tongues and to prophesy. We are bold to preach the gospel, and we get guided in life and ministry. You cannot do without Him as a Christian if you want to be fulfilled in this life. Pray to the Father now, that you want His Holy Spirit. And you shall receive Him, because the Father Himself is eager to give Him to you.
PRAY: “Heavenly Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit. I need Him in my life, and in my services to you O GOD. I’m open to receive, fill me up with your Holy Spirit, in Jesus name. Amen.”
