IF YOU ARE AFFLICTED, CHECK YOURSELF FIRST.“I will return again to My place Till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.” Hosea 5:15 NKJV
Afflictions are the persistent spiritual or physical unpleasant experiences that we go through. Afflictions can happen due to the following: (i) demonic attacks (ii) if the spiritual protections around someone gets removed for the sake of the sin that he committed (iii) due to oppositions from certain hateful people.
Brother James paints a clear picture: “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray… Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; AND IF HE HAVE COMMITTED SINS, THEY SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM.” James 5:13-15 KJV. The Psalmist also said: “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.” Psalms 119:67 KJV.
Retrace your steps backward to correct your errors if you want to put an end to afflictions. Healing and restoration from afflictions begin when a Believer acknowledges his faults, if there is any. If he has done no wrong, then satan is responsible for his pains! God is never the source of afflictions. If we offend, God steps aside to let us know the difference between His presence and the absence of it, then satan takes advantage of the opening. That is what God meant in our study scripture above. When we get into trouble, we would look for Him earnestly, and He would return to be with us! Check yourself before you “rebuke” satan. You will get out of those afflictions!
